PERL has produced “palm cards” that contain information on resources where victims of sexual assault can obtain help.

As many of you know, we are troubled that the Memphis Says NO MORE campaign has disseminated palm cards that tell readers to report rape by calling 901-545-COPS — the non-emergency line of the Memphis Police Department.  This line is not equipped to field rape calls, and complainants should not have to endure the additional discomfort of repeating the details of their assault to non-emergency operators.

Our palm cards correct the Memphis Says NO MORE cards by affirming that to report rape, you should call 911.

Because we understand that many victims are not comfortable with reporting their assaults to police, we’ve also included resources and information about how to obtain medical care, emergency contraception, and other services without reporting.

Finally, we’ve included information about how to seek redress against the police in the event a victim is not satisfied with the way  his or her call for service was handled.

To receive a supply of printed cards, please contact us.  A single card may also be printed, cut, and used from these images, and we are happy to email you the graphic file.
