Whenever you talk to police, it is important to know your rights. This is true for victims of crime who report to police.
If you are reporting a sex crime, you should give statements to as few people as possible. Making multiple statements about your assault could weaken your case. Ask to speak to a sex crimes investigator.
Filing a Complaint
If you have a complaint or problem with the manner in which your call for police service was handled, call the Security Squad’s confidential hotline at 901-576-4979 or their office number at 901-636-4955.
Inspectional Services is made up of the Internal Affairs Squad and the Security Squad.
The purpose of the Internal Affairs Squad is to define responsibilities and establish procedures for sworn members of this department for dealing with observed or reported allegations of misconduct.
Inspectional Services conducts all internal investigations involving police personnel, as well as other sensitive investigations. Complaints lodged against police personnel can range from verbal abuse to brutality. Most of these complaints fall under three categories: personal conduct, use of force and arrest, and duty performance.
